About Murphy USA
Murphy USA is an American company which operates a chain of retail gas stations. What sets the store part is that many of them are located next to Walmart stores. Murphy USA started as an offshoot of Murphy Oil in the year 2013.
The company has over 1400 retail fuelling stations spread across 26 states of the United States, and over 1000 of them are adjacent to Walmart. The company also has 240 stations know as Murphy Express stores located in independent locations. These properties are large format facilities and have many other products on sale apart from just fuel. These are also multi-lane fuelling facilities enabling customers to fuel up faster.
Murphy USA has always purchased its fuel from companies, refineries, and direct market suppliers. Its refined products are marketed under its brand and sold through its outlets and other terminal suppliers. The convenience stores sell a large selection of snacks, tobacco products, beverages, and non-food supplies. Its fuel distribution process among its different locations is done in multiple ways. It is either transported via truck on the land. Or pipelines belong to other companies are leased out or brought to transport fuel. Its terminals are also supplied fuel via marine transportation or a network of its pipelines.
Its Walmart tie-up was in terms of a discount programme. Under this discount was offered to customers on the purchase of fuel and if certain methods of payment, as specified by Walmart, were used. Murphy USA decided to break up with Walmart in early 2016. This happened because Walmart started to open their gas stations and convenience stores. It was then decided that more locations would be opened gradually across America. As of 2018, Fortune 500 ranked Murphy USA 279 in its list of 500 of United States largest corporations in terms of revenue.
