About Taco Bell

Currently, Taco Bell has 6,604 branches in 22 countries and territories around the world; In addition, in the next five years, it plans to extend to Peru, Finland, Sri Lanka, and Romania, also taking into account that it already has 100 restaurants in China, Brazil, India and Canada each. Yes, on the tiny island of Guam – with a population of 174,214 people – there are seven Taco Bells. But despite all that, there is not a single branch of Taco Bell in the country that saw the taco born.

That’s right: there is no Taco Bell in Mexico. But it has not been for lack of interest. They have tried it again and again, and again, once.

The incursions of Taco Bell in Mexico began in 1992, when the chain had only 3,700 restaurants, mostly in the United States. The company made its first attempt in the Mexican market with a food cart at the CDMX, which served a limited menu of soft tacos and burritos, along with Pepsi, the chain’s owner at the time. Some other branches opened next to KFC restaurants.

The problems arose from the beginning. The non-authentic names had to be changed because the Mexican clients did not understand exactly what they were asking for. For example, the crispy taco – an anomaly in Mexico – had to change to “Tacostada,” evoking the texture of a taco-shaped toast.

But in the mid-2000s, Taco Bell was ready for a new attempt.

Expectations were high; after 15 years of absence, this time Taco Bell opened with Dairy Queen in the parking lot of a luxurious shopping center on the outskirts of Monterrey.

Now because of their hard work, Taco Bell is now a brand name known pretty much all over the world.
